Dr. Nicole Charles graduated with her Doctorate Degree in flute performance with Professor Katherine Borst Jones at the Ohio State
University, where she also completed her Masters in performance under a teaching assistantship. Dr. Charles completed her undergraduate degree with Professor Francile Bilyeu of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Charles received her certification from the SAGWA (Suzuki Association of Greater Washington) Flute Institute under the instruction of Mrs. Laura Larson, Mr. Kenichi Ueda, and Dr. Takeaki Miyamae. She had unique opportunity to study with the Suzuki flute method creator, Toshio Takahashi in Matusmoto, Japan.
Before moving to Texas, Dr. Charles performed with several symphonies, including the Central Ohio Symphony, Mansfield Orchestra, Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra. Her university teaching jobs included positions with the University of Dayton and Muskingum University. Her love for flute choir inspired her to form and direct the North Star Flute Choir, and she was also the Central Ohio Flute Association Flute Ensemble Showcase Coordinator. She has been a featured soloist for various ensembles and featured guest conductor at flute festivals.
